Board Services and Talent Insights

Board Services

We work with clients to build and strengthen the capability of their Boards through executive search, succession planning and the provision of independent insight and advice. Our Partners have been delivering an integrated suite of advisory services including executive search, succession planning, review, assessment and coaching for more than 20 years.

Our role is to support the Boards of our clients in delivering against their ambitions, ensuring they fully effective and sustainable for the future. Our broad cross-sector knowledge enables us to provide a new focus to challenging appointments through which we can apply lateral and enhanced creative thinking. Interwoven with our process is a strong commitment to due diligence, risk, compliance and regulatory requirements. The diversity of our networks, and our investment in building Board-ready talent pipelines, enables us to deliver shortlists that blend highly experienced portfolio holders through to the best of the new and emerging Board talent.

Miles Advisory NED Mentoring Programme

At Miles Advisory, we are deeply committed to promoting diversity of thought, experience, and background across public sector Boards. As part of this commitment, we have developed a distinctive and highly valued service: our Non-Executive Director (NED) Mentoring Programme. This programme is unique to our firm and is designed to support individuals who are either new to non-executive roles or transitioning into the public sector for the first time.

Recognising that stepping into a NED position—especially within the public sector—can be both exciting and daunting, we offer newly appointed NEDs the opportunity for bespoke, one-to-one mentoring with a seasoned and respected Chair during their first year. This personalised guidance provides a trusted, confidential space for new appointees to reflect, ask questions freely (including those they may feel hesitant to raise with their own Board Chair), and gain clarity on the complexities of Board dynamics, governance, and public accountability.

This mentoring relationship acts as a powerful accelerator: not only does it build confidence and capability, but it significantly shortens the learning curve for new NEDs. Participants are able to contribute meaningfully to their Boards or Committees more quickly, navigate challenges with greater assurance, and become effective stewards of good governance in a much shorter time frame.

Above all, this programme is a practical expression of our belief that inclusive Boards are stronger Boards. By equipping new and diverse voices with the right support at the right time, we help ensure that public sector governance benefits from a broader range of perspectives and experiences—leading to better decision-making and more impactful leadership.
