OPRED

Appointing a lead commercial analyst to OPRED

How we did it

Client Profile
The client, OPRED, is the government regulator for the provision of decommissioning
investment in offshore oil and gas. Based in Aberdeen their role is mainly to work with
operators to assess risk and ensure financial provision is made to cover the cost of
decommissioning and environmental restitution.

Client Requirement
OPRED were seeking to appoint a lead commercial analyst to shape, lead and manage the
analysis function. Based in Aberdeen, the ideal candidate would have in depth knowledge of
the nature of the industry, decommissioning regulation, annual reporting and the operator
financial structures.

Our Approach & Methodology
Our initial research and sourcing activity quickly identified a finite market of some 300
individuals who lived in the locality and were either employed in consultancies or in
operators leading the completion and submission of analysis and annual reporting to the
regulator. We sense checked this demographic with both OPRED and the parent department
BEIS, and were able to validate this market. We then contacted everyone in that target pool.
We had a very strong response to our messaging and our engagement style.

Outcome
In the end we had 3 candidates who were found appointable for the role, with the successful
candidate being a BAME male with previous operator experience and more recently
experience in OGA, another regulatory body based in Aberdeen.
